Terwijl The Lord of the Rings-fans angstvallig uitkijken naar de release van de Gollum-game, komen Embracer en Amazon Games met misschien wel nog groter nieuws: ze gaan samenwerken om een nieuwe The Lord of the Rings massively multiplayer online (MMO) game te ontwikkelen.
Veel wordt er op dit moment nog niet meegegeven in het persbericht dat zonet in onze digitale brievenbus ging. Amazon Games Orange County Studio heeft de leiding over het project, dat op dit moment nog in een vroeg ontwikkelstadium zit. Amazon Games gaat optreden als uitgever van de game op pc en consoles.
Wel wordt gezegd dat de game zich uiteraard gaat afspelen in het door J.R.R. Tolkien bedachte Middle-earth, en dat de verhalen uit The Hobbit en The Lord of the Rings centraal gaan staan.

We’re also pleased to be expanding our relationship with Embracer Group following our Tomb Raider deal last year, as they’ve proven to be excellent collaborators.”
Amazon kondigde trouwens ook uitgeversovereenkomsten aan met NCSOFT voor Throne and Liberty, Bandai Namco Online voor Blue Protocol, Crystal Dynamics voor de volgende grote Tomb Raider-game.
Ik ben razend benieuwd om de eerste beelden van deze nagelnieuwe The Lord of the Rings-MMO te zien! Ondertussen start ik misschien nog wel eens met The Lord of the Rings Online, een MMORPG die al sinds 2007 te spelen is.
